Male Blossoms disappearing as if cut

Hello,
I have some mystery "thing" destroying all my
male blossoms when then are only a couple days old.
They all look like they have been cut off cleanly at
about the halfway mark leaving about 2" of petal remaining.
Fortunately I was able to have a male still around each time
a female opened.  Any suggestions as to what could cut
a seven inch blossom off so cleanly.  I have no deer
nor rabbits nor any other vermin with which to deal.
To most of you, males are no longer a concern but,
to us in the desert southwest, we have to wait until
monsoon season to be able to grow pumpkins.  I have two
softball size pumpkins doing well and hope to have
some good sized pumpkins for Halloween.
