1998 - Year of the Pumpkin Splits?

This is all I hear about, split vines, split pumpkins, split stems, etc.
Anyone think that maybe we should concentrate more on breeding out the
tendency to split rather than SIZE? If the splitting is reduced, the size will
automatically be there. So the splitting should be #1 on the list to consider
when making crosses for the next couple of years at least, don't you think?
Now of course, that means there needs to be a decent size strain (600+) that
has a good track record in being split resistant. Is there such a strain?!
Maybe there is, but no one really paid much attention to it because they are
more concerned about the weights, when if this splitting tendency is bred out,
pumpkins like Scar will become the new world record breakers. The size is
already bred into the pumpkins. If someone crosses two huge pumpkins that both
have these splitting problems, what is the point?! So anyway, ARE there any
good strains that have a really good anti-splitting track record?! What does
everyone think of this?!
