Pretend you are looking down on the pumpkin from 20-30 feet straight above the pumpkin and put your tape around the outline of the pumpkin that you see on the ground. In otherwords from your perch up there you would only see the tape at the outer edge of the pumpkin. This is not really parellel to the ground in most cases. This is what I do.

Hope this gives you a couple of extra inches!!!
