Well, here it is,
The low down.
Site #1 Remains empty except for a volunteer sunflower which stands over 15
feet.
Site #2 The #697 Ciliberto now has two fruit on it. "Nerf" is a carbon copy
of Kirk Momberts Half Moon Bay pumpkin of last year. It has an enormous
circ., but it only comes up to my knees. Looks like a cow frisbee. The other
pumpkin is just a baby.
The #615 Wilson was removed altogether and failed to set a one pumpkin.
Site #3 The #825 Shymanski produced a nice #255 which had a flesh split and
"Fat Albert" which quit growing at about the 300 pound stage. I have 3 young
pumpkins on this plant.
Site #4 The #827 Holland is still a very nice plant. Not a one stem split,
in fact the stems look really nice and thick. Trouble is "Nameless" split in
a half cresent moon shape 6" from the stem, and "Wart" split in the blossom.
Nameless weighed in at #557 and Wart blew away Kirk Momberts State Fair record
by 146 pounds and weighed in at #662 after it was off the vine for 5 days. I
have 2 decent fruit left on the plant along with 4 seller on the other side of
the plant.
Site #5 The #567.5 Mombert. I have a couple nice fruit on this plant.
Hmmmmm.
Site #6 The #627.5 Hester has 3 next generation Scars on it. Nothing over
100 lbs yet though. The #469 has 3 #400+ luminas on it. They just are not
changing colors. Pure white, odd shaped, but growing.
Overall, I tied my own state record by taking 7 out of the 10 giant vegetable
classes at the state fair. A 7 lb beet, 21" sunflower head, 13'3" sunflower
stalk, 16' 6" cornstalk, 15" ear of corn, 57 lb squash, and a new state fair
record 662 pound pumpkin. Not bad, but I wish I had a nice one for the
weighoff.
Take Care,
Brett
