SVB=SOB=WAR

I was the one that recommended the product "Eight". It is the replacement for "Sevin". I still would recommend "Eight" and have not had any borers until yesterday. "Eight" is fairly expensive and washes off the plant easily I have unfortunately found out. I put the dust on and sprayed the leaves on my best plant (1056 Stelpflug) every 7-10 days with last time being on July 23rd. No SVB-SOB and no eggs, then the heat came and from the 25th through the 31st I started watering heavily daily. I went to apply it again last night and I noticed at the base of my main vine sawdust. I started examining some secondary vines that were showing some yellowing of the leaves and sure enough they were in those also. The 1056 was so vigorous that I let part of the first and third secondary vine go under a wood fence. I went behind the fence to check them and they were so infested I immediately cut them off. Between the two cut vines I pulled out 52 SVB's-SOB's. The plants I did not water did!

ot have any SVB-SOB damage. Conclusion; "Eight" works but must be applied after you water every time and to the entire plant! Since "Eight" is not cheap soon it will be time to mortgage the house if the heat continues.
I think it's time the growers East of the Rockies on this list declare war on the SVB-SOB. We need to start a data bank of each individual's patch consisting of; 1) When they first and last appear in the moth stage in your patch. 2) The most common spots they deposit their eggs in your patch. 3) Time of day you most frequently see the moths. 4)How long before first seeing them in the moth stage until noticing vine damage in the larvae stage. 5) What chemicals have shown to be effective a)aplication rates, b)application intervals. 6) ineffective chemicals 7) What chemicals cause the plants to react negatively when applied in high heat conditions. 8) Organic controls that have or have not been productive. 9)Tips for removing them in the larvae stage. 10) Other products ie. barriers that have or have not worked.
Plus any other topics that can help us develope a strategy so we can go to war against the SVB-SOB!
