Well, stupid me, I moved my 84" pumpkin about an inch today to give it
more room to expand next to the vine and I heard that CRACKing sound
that brings chills to the spine of a novice grower. I though that it
had broken clean off, but only a small crack on one side of the stem
(who knows how deep it goes inside, though). Good thing this pumpkin
wasn't on track to break 800# or so or I might have done something
drastic.
IT IS the biggest pumpkin I've got though, and I'm wondering if anything
can be done. Although it sounds kind of stupid, I wonder if a couple of
butterfly bandages might help keep it from cracking further. What do
you all recommend? Should I move that pumpkin back to where it was so
that there isn't any stress on it? Should I just put some Captan paste
on there and hope for the best?
