When you see a female, it generally takes about a week before it opens.
It depends on how fast the plant is growing and temperatures outside.
Observe the female, and you can almost tell that it will open the next day
by looking at the color (yellowish tint) and it is starting to bulge.
When open, you have one day to pollinate this female. It will be ready for
some pollen the first 4-6 hours. Even if it does open the next day, it
means nothing.
I have a female that should open tomorrow or the next. I will hand
pollinate at 6:00 a.m.
The males sometimes last for a day or two, however the pollen is generally
gone in 4 hrs because of the bees.
Hope this helps
