Today, one of those midwestern storms went through Rochester with wind
and hail. Our flowers are shredded and there are leaves all over the
lawn. The car has some dings on the roof. The good news is that the
pumpkin patch is 13 miles from home and just 1.35 inches of rain was
received with some wind. All the plants and pumpkins survived! Phew!
There were several pumpkin plots around Rochester which were not so
lucky and ended up looking like Brett's. More storms are predicted
later in the week.
After 20 days of growth, the 584 Heyne had a circumference of 80.5
inches. My best ever. The big problem lately has been the low
temperatures as they have been averaging 8-10 degrees below optimal
pumpkin growth on both the low and high end. A good day would be 15
pounds of growth.
