There are two generally accepted practices of measuring, the OTT method,
and the Circumference Method. Most will agree that the OTT is more
accurate, generally. there are some variations, but it's pretty on target.
In the OTT method, you measure over top, over side, and circumference, not
necessarily in that order. Over top is from stem to blossome end, run the
tape measure over the top of the pumpkin, and let the tape go straight down
to the ground on each end, not underneath the pumpkin but straight down.
that's one measurement, next do over side, same method, just sidways at the
pumpkins mid section, or widest point. Finally, circumference is the
measurment around the pumpkin parallel to the ground. This can get
difficult with an odd shaped pumpkin, or a large one, (you may need some
help). then add those numbers together to get total OTT, then compare that
to the chart. If you don't have a chart, i have an excel spreadsheet that
does it for you. Let me Know, i can email it to you.
good luck
scott
I know it's probably been asked a hundred times....but can someone breifly
explain the OTT method of measuring? thanks.
