I have 4 plants growing with 5 pumpkins growing. My largest is estimated
at 250lbs. I set back my fruit set to the last week of July and Aug. Here
in Mo. it has been very hot and dry, I water every day with diluted
fertilizer through a homemade irrigation system to all plants. I have read
every article pertaining to pumpkins and have been growing them for the
last 12 years. The largest I have ever grown was 330lbs. which sucumbed to
a rot at the end of the season. My question is all my pumpkins I have ever
grown are always around the 250lbs. range, whats up! Is the hot climate
shorting their natural growth cycle. Or do I need better stock genetic
seed. I hand pollinate, keep the best seed for next years growth hoping to
get a plant that will acclimate to the hot climate in my area, with no
luck. I envy the BIG BOYS.
