Re: cutting secondary vines


Kirk,

Some cut every other one, some don't cut at all. You may want to consider how
much room you have and how much air flow you have under the leaves. If they are
crowded, I would cut at least every other one. In any case, you will have to cut
some around which ever pumpkin you decide to keep so you have plenty of room and
no tension on the stem or vine close to the pumpkin.
A third vine will grow off of the side vines called Tertiary vines. Cut them off
to limit sprawl their mostly worthless anyway and will create a twisted jungle.
10' from the main stump is good. After you pollinate, keep the flower dry for at
least a day or so. Just put a styrofoam cup over the flower so the sprinklers
don't fill the flower with water.
