I am a newcomer to growing the giants and have developed SVB in
my plants. I have used Diazinon and then Sevin. I see no improvement.
Actually I think they thrived on what I gave them. The problem in primary
in the vines closest to the root but spreading. My fruit is growing at
the rate of 4-1/2 to 6" daily. I am wondering if the main root is
essential to the growth of the fruit or do the additional roots under all
leaves support it enough to keep it growing if the root area of the vine
is destroyed? I have tried unsuccessfully to get some Captan in NNY>
Does anyone know where I can get this or is it restricted in my area. I
would appreciate any input I can get. I grew a 104# Big Max in '92 by
just planting it and letting it do its own thing. With these Atlantic
Giants I am worse than a new mother!! Thanks in advance.
