Vine/Pumpkin rot
I recently lost my biggest pumpkin to date from rot of some sort. I had
trouble with borers on the vine it was growing on and also near the stem of
the pumpkin. Since this is my first real experience with vine borers, I
am a bit ignorant. Do borers cause the entire vine to rot and turn to mush
once they have entered the vine? If a borer burrowed into the pumpkin
through the stem, would this cause the pumpkin to rot?
I've been able to deal with all the other problems I've faced so far
this year (vine borers, cuke beetles, bacterial wilt, vandals, my own
stupidity!), because there was a reason behind the problem. But the
vine/pumpkin rot has me puzzled.
Mourning the loss of my 275# uow in Northeast Wisconsin.
