RAin, Rain, Rain, ....
Will trade some rain for warmth and sunshine. Since the 9th of August
my patch has received 1.50 inches, .45 inch, 2.65 inches, .62 inch, and
probably another inch last night with more on the way. That was in
addition to the many heavy rains before that. The ground is saturated!!
The high temperature on Friday and Saturday did NOT even reach 70
degrees. It has been this way all summer. From reading all the notes on
the board, I know that some of you would be quite willing to trade some
of your sunshine and heat for a few inches of rain. Already this year,
this area is over a foot of rain over average and past our normal rain
fall for the year.
With all the rain and cool weather, the plants are growing great, but
the pumpkins are not. All the mud makes it very difficult to work on the
plants and to keep the vines from growing everywhere. One cannot cover
the vine with dirt or pull weeds unless one enjoys playing in the mud.
Spray or dust will not stay on the plants for more than a few hours
before it is washed off. At least some of the cucumber beetles drown in
the flowers. :) Enough whining on my part ------
