     I wish i had a concrete answer for you.  sometimes these things just
happen, and there is no explanation.  It's possible the pumpkin split, on
the bottom where you couldn't see it.  But sometimes you can't avoid things
no matter what you do.  That murphys law thing.  I hate that.  sorry i
couldn't be more help to you.

To Scott and All  Other Group Members,
  what happens when there is only one pumpkin set on main vine, one on a
secondary and the fruit goes through a growth rapid growth phase and then
stops.  Had a pumpkin that was 90"Cir at 20 days and was growing at
approximately 6" a day for 5 days; then, boom...it stopped growing? i kept
the
fertilizer the same, watering the same and there was no physical damage to
the
fruit.  Does anyone have an idea as to what may have made this pumpkin stop
growing? thanks.
