Puyallup Fair Weigh-off
Duncan posted on this last week, but I was able to get more information and
I thought I would share it with the list members. Weigh off is September
10, 1999 at 5:30 PM. Entries should be brought onto the fairgrounds in
Puyallup Washington through the Service Gate to Arena K. The top award is
$400 with cash awards going to second place and third place as well. These
are $200 for second place and $100 dollars for third. All the pumpkins will
remain on dislpay for the duration of the fair. If you want to get your
pumpkin back to retrieve the seeds you'll have to pick it up at the close of
the fair. The phone number for additional information is (253) 841-5017.

P.S. This venue has been known to have very heavy pumpkins take the top
prize. Joel Holland won a few years ago with an 807 lb. specimen. Lincoln
Mettlers winner last year was in excess of 600 lbs. I don't think you'll
find any 10 year olds crying their eyes out about losing at this fair.
There are other classes the kids can enter their pumpkins in and win a
ribbon and a few dollars. I'm hoping my spaghetti squash will ripen in time
for me to be competative again. The giant pumpkins at this fair are one of
the most popular exhibits and this is the 6th largest fair in the nation.
