A precocious gene ? Naw.....an incorrigible gene maybe...maybe an
incredulous gene, but for most out there an antagonistic gene for sure !
Nic....all kidding aside, the precocious thing is fine for reality ,science
and serious study. But you are correct with the display situation being
different. (everyone needs to bring 15 day olds pictures to the weighoff from
now on). How would you explain the green with darker green stripes that seem
to disapear after a short while and become orange in the end ?......G
----Do you agree with the old idea that about 80% of the time the progeny
will be the color or greatly influenced by the male parent ?
-----In your squash/pumpkin crosses and your observations,do you see a
STRONGER influence in the color from a green (or any TRUE SQUASH COLOR)male
parent than that of a real good orange male parent ? For example would a
orange male parent likely produce more of a blended color than a green male
parent ? The reason I ask is that my squash male crosses seem to be good
green yet a good orange x biege cross produces something in the
middle...........Glenn
