On a different slant - -

I see Stokes Seeds in Ontario sells Atlantic Giant seeds....
Seems you can buy a pound for 112.45 Cdn.
Now if you were to buy 5 pounds or more you can get them for 99.60 Cdn.
Now if you really want to save a few bucks you can order 25 pounds and get
them for 94.25 Cdn. per pound.

This really confuses the h**l outa me.
An average AG seed - you would get 1000 - 1400 seeds per pound.
Now if you wanted to take advantage of that 25 pound price you would
recieve about 30000 seeds.

Now lets say you were to get 90% germination rate (quite poor - should
easily get 95) you could start 27000 plants with your 25 pounds seed. Now
lets say you allow 1000 ft square per plant that would be 43 plants per
acre. Your 25 pounds of seed would plant about 628 acres!!

Does anyone know of anyone growing this kind of acreage of Atlantic
Giants:)??

Not me!!

Glenn N.......you obviously have WAY TOO MUCH TIME on your hands. Lets
see....they are probably apealing to the people who would buy their seeds
this year for the future. A seed will last about 10 years with ,say....10%
loss of germination per year. So,if the guy who bought all those seeds wanted
to maintain the same amount of plants each year he would grow  (1X)seeds in
the first year at 100% germination, something like (1.1X) in the second
year,1.2X the third etc down to 1.8x seeds the 10th year. This means
approximately 30000/14.5 (x) or roughly 2000 plants per year for each of the
ten years. You can figure 4 seedlings per hill culled to one and given
500square feet per plant would bring the total down to a measly 258,620.68sq
ft (about the size of Paul McIntyre's patch..hee-hee) divided by 42,000sq ft
per acre and you have a measly 6 acres of giant pumpkins.Furthermore,....my
friend has six acres and is only growing ! ONE pumpkin plant and since MORE
THAN 50% of these giants don't make it to weighoff, well the answer is
simple....you need to get TWICE the 30,000 seeds just to get ONE to weighoff
!..............g
