The Archives
Josh and others,
There are two great ways to review prior posts. One I use a lot is a
chronological list of all the posts. You can find it at the following url,
you just need each month to update the dec00 to jan01 or whatever (or go
back to dec97 if you want to). There is also an option to list the posts by
author or by thread. So if you've deleted a post or just want to review,
you can check it out.

The other spot is an even hotter research tool: the archives search page.
It has all the years of the mailing list, searchable by subject or name or
whatever you want to search on. For instance, you might look up "segment
AND pollination" or "Dan Carlson" or "Calai 846" or like that (don't use the
quotes - that's just to show you what to type. But all the instructions are
readily available at the site). Here's the url:

The search page is terrific for looking up someone's email address, for
instance. All those posts saying 'Hey Joe Schmo, what's your email address'
do use up server space and don't really contribute to the group or to the
common knowledge. Please don't anybody get all uppity about my complaining
about the volume of mail. Volume I don't mind, but if we can make the list
a bit more efficient, that's a good idea, no??
The search function is also great for finding out what body of knowledge
exists on a given subject like genetics or vine borers or composting. There
have been many good contributions over the years from good, knowledgeable
folks who for various reasons are no longer subscribing to the list, but we
can still learn from their contributions by going through the archives.
Dan and Duncan and Chris have given us some great tools to help us learn
about these crazy punkins. Let's put those tools to use!
Have fun!
Beth
