I am going to answer this and cover the pine needle part of the groups messages also.. If you want to see a pic of my patch, and my 879, email me privately, Ill show you that...... a) I am a contender for the squash king in 2001 ......and........ b) it is possible to grow next to a pine needled plant.. My northern border of my patch is a 12 ft hedge row, and the first 3 ft of my patch is a very big mix of needles and soil... The pic will show the end product, and the hedgerow in the background.. Would I recommend pine needles as compost, no.. but can stuff grow around pine needle bearing trees and bushes? Hell yeah!!!!
