Memories of Barb

                    Memories of Barb
Barb Kincaid was a good friend and a very
special person. I have some very fond
memories of her visit to us here in the Napa
Valley in 1999. She arrvived here the day before the Half Moon Bay
Weigh-Off, which
is our pumpkin loading day. I had talked to
her on the phone a few times and we had
e-mailed a lot but when you meet a person for the first time, you never
know what to expect.
When met I Barb at 8 a.m. that morning at our
designated meeting spot I was pleasantly
surprised beyond all expectations. After talking
to her for only a few minutes I felt like I had known her all my life.
She was one of the most
friendly and outgoing persons that I have ever
met......and wow, what a sense of humor !!
She loved to laugh......and her laugh was
contagious. (She almost got us kicked out
of 2 gift shops in HMB because of our
uncontrollable laughter in the "silly greeting
card" department, but more on that later).
When we loaded our pumpkins for HMB Barb
joined our loading caravan. That afternoon I
think she broke the world's record for the amount of photos taken in 3
hours. She sure
loved that camera of her's ......and she was
darn good with it.
Later that day we drove to HMB.....to be more
accurate.....she drove, I navigated. As we
approached San Francisco Barb spotted the
precision Navy flying team, the Blue Angels,
who were performing in the skies above S.F.
I don't know how she was able to take so many
pictures of those planes while driving the car
but I sure was impressed.....she drove me to
parts of San Francisco that I never knew exsisted while chasing those
planes and snapping that shutter !! The 2 hour trip from
Napa to Half Moon Bay only took us 3 1/2 hours but it was a fun trip and
was quite
memorable.
She also liked to play practical jokes.
By the time we arrived in HMB she had me
actually believing that Chris Andersen was
bringing a 1400 pound pumpkin to the
weigh-off. She "got me good" on
that one !
After the Weigh-Off we were in downtown
HMB standing next to Loren & Pam Vanderschoot's truck, which had 2 large
pumpkins in it. The pumpkins were drawing
a crowd and Barb made sure that every
curious spectator got some of her 189 Kincaid
seeds that she had with her ........along with
plenty of instructions on how to germinate
and care for the plants.
Well I just wanted to share a memory or two
of Barb with y'all. To all of you who knew her
some of this probably sounded a little bit
familiar to you. To those who didn't know her,
after reading this maybe y'all can understand
why everyone loved her so much.
I miss Barb a lot. I know we all do.

Sincerely,
George Webster
