Wow where to start....
As far as this list is concerned I am thankful for all of you, Pumpkin Growers, who put so much time into the science of growing these monsters. I am sure that most of you have started this hobby with an interest in competition, bettering your personal best, and of course taking home a prize for all of your hard work. But I am thankful for the work you put in for an entirely different reason - the pure excitement and enjoyment of others.
To be able to see the eyes of a child swell in amazement at the first site of 200 or 300 pound pumpkin, only to turn the corner and see the size of something like Greg Stuckers 1105 pounder. To see families enjoying the site together and sharing in the experience. To see a parent and child working side by side cultivating ground, sewing seeds, and reaping the harvest, grandparents working with grandchildren, or sharing the stories of these monster pumpkins with a classroom full of school children (not to mention enjoying the competition between husbands and wives).
This year more than 50,000 people visited our festival to enjoy a number of things including Giant Pumpkins, but most of all to enjoy being together. So I thank you all for helping provide an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy being families.
