Pumpkins in NZ

Hi Team

I thought it about time to update you on what is happening in NZ this
season. It has been a wet and cool spring so not a great start. The weather
is now picking up and it looks like it may be a hot Christmas (turkey
sandwiches at the beach).

We sprouted 300 seedlings this year and gave them out through our libraries
and information centres which went out like hot cakes - only two to a
customer. We also gave out all our seeds as the seedlings seem to have
renewed interest in the programme. Weigh-in day is April 6th 12 noon to 3pm
(if you happen to be in New Zealand at the time).

There are a few groups outside of us growing. One bloke in Hamilton has got
53 people at his work all growing pumpkins. Kawerau on the volcanic plateau
and Kaiapoi in the south Island both report 'quiet interest'.

I am not personally growing a pumpkin this year as I am in a final year at
University (again) and the house is on the market so I intend to rest up
this summer and do a bit of painting (pictures - not the house) though I
could paint a picture of the house!!!!

Have a great and safe Christmas team.
