Here is my submission. I wasn't going to submit anything, but when Kathie
called me out, I had to answer the challenge. Last year my inspiration came from
the land of the Rising Sun (Japanese Haiku). This year a tip o the hat goes to
the Faire Isle with my attempt at a limerick.
And So It Goes
There once was a woman named Janet
Who, in her garden, did plan it
A pumpkin sublime
It would take all her time
Web site info, in her head, she would cram it
Next, came the preparation of soil
There were quite a few hours of toil
And sweat, don't forget
Blisters over which to fret
In the hot Valley sun she did broil
Good seed selection, it seems, was a must
In which one would she place her trust?
Will it grow big or stay small?
It held her in thrall
She decided on one, bang or bust
When the seedling popped up, Oh! great joy
Then came flowers, which one's the girl or the boy?
There were vines to be buried
Pesticide to be carried
Sprayed on pests who tried to annoy
(No, not husband or kids, just bugs)
In came Fall, with its plentiful harvest
Its discovered her fruits' not the best
Still, her head was held high
She'd made her best try
One demanding, grueling, long quest
On her mind were thoughts for next year
Pumpkin friends she made are held dear
With an amendment or two
Her garden renewed
Maybe then, she will make the top tier.
