898.

I tried to get a 582 but didn't have what the traders needed. If I were
planting it, my next venture would be to obtain a 1458 Whittier if
possible.
Either Mr. Whittier has a secret, green thumb or something is in the
genetic
line of the 582 or all of the above. That pumpkin actually split with a
lot of
growing time left. Only God knows how large it could have grown. I would
want
to cross back the same genetics by reintroducing the 582 x the similar
genetics and somewhere in between increases the chances of hitting the
magic.
Brett has already crossed the 582 x 845 Bobier in the 855 Hester '03.
My venture is to make crosses that Brett or others may have missed, i.e.
the
783 Daletas x 898 Knauss, 898 Knauss x 695 Handy, 695 Hester x 898
Knauss or
any combination thereof that hasn't been made as I do my homework and
find
out. The 845 Bobier would also be an interesting seed to cross with. I
would
have had to trade away all my good seeds to get it though. I am into as
large
as possible, light orange to pink color, and HEAVY to est. Shape is nice
if
possible, although some of the heaviest ones tend to run flat (I think
partly
due to the enormous weight). I think you're on the right track though
asking
for opinions from top growers who I hope will chime in on this
discussion.
Genetic background, soil prep and teaching is what this site is all
about, as
well as sharing our seeds, time and knowledge. The one whom holds his
seed or
knowledge will get smoked in the end. OUR goal should be to grow the
first
"One-ton" monster and help others grow it as well. If you're out there
