Glenn,
You've got a good point on the "beauty contest" thing and I should have
mentioned the green bias. What the (*&%# the difference what color it is
when the weight of the squash is what wins. They are all squash you know!
I'd love to see the next world record be a giant green/gray squash and then
watch many transform into "squash" growers. If it wasn't for the squash
genetics we'd have Mammoth, Big Moon, Big Max, Prizewinner, and Giant
Howden. No where near the size we're growing now. We can thank Mr. Dill for
his expertise on introducing the Giant Hungarian squash with the Mammoth
Pumpkin to make colossal gains in size and weight over several generations
with his hard earned and appreciated work. He still honors the GREEN by
selling the "Show King" Squash. I'd also like to congratulate people like
Mr. Brett Hester, Mr. Len Stellpflug, Mr. Hebb, Mr. Welty and growers like
yourself for not trying to snuff out this GREEN Magic!! Merry Christmas to
All !!!! :):):) Don in Wild & Wonderful West Virginia
