Re: Seed storage

It's amazing what these seeds will tolerate. After being in the garden all winter,
freezing, thawing, and constantly moist... they germinate on their own all over
the place (next June). I don't freeze mine and I get a very good germination rate.
Freezing them will not hurt at all,... but I would look at it in terms of security.
If you have a lot of interlopers in your freezer (i.e. kids) be careful that something
like that could accidentally get thrown out. Also, beware of storing seeds in "soft"
containers where mice could be present. Mice will eat the seeds!

I germinated a seed from 1991 (Barber 730) this past summer which was kept
in a mayonnaise jar in the basement, a small hole was poked in the top of
the lid for minimal circulation. Keep it simple as for storage. A man that
has grown for years told me 2 years ago he germinated a 1984 seed which was
kept in an envelope in his garage, not a heated garage and withstood the
temperature changes. Keep simple what can be. Hope this helps.
