Mark,
Can't you do what that chap did in How to Grow World-Class etc etc Vol 1,
lift it out with a crane?
Mr Ray Barenchi grows in his suburban back yard (a 1027 pounder last year).
His is an unusual situation, as the street is some four feet lower than the
front yard. At harvest we wrestle the pumpkin onto the pallet on a pallet
jack, then wheel it around the side yard and across the front yard via a set
of two 2x6's that it rolls on.
Therein lies plenty of comedy as the guys have to give it such a shove to
get it off the 2x6 it's on and onto the next one that once it's on No. 2
it's positively racing to roll off the other end of the 2x6 before the guys
can get board No. 1 laid down at the other end.
[I say, a third 2x6 can't cost that much, but - being a woman - what do I
know?]
Too old to have a role in all the tugging, Ray backs his pickup up to the
retaining wall, and from there it's all downhill. Hope this helps!
I sent your contact info to Phil Hunt at the GVGO.
Merry merry Christmas to you and those you love.
Kathie
