Re: Cucumber beetles

Go to Google and search "plants repel insects". I haven't tried this approach yet, but plan to next year. If it doesn't work, what the heck--I'll have a pretty pumpkin patch!! Steve Minor ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bridgette Antoinette Tojek" <honeybempowered@gmail.com>

Although I have not yet tried to utilize companion planting, I do plan on
researching it more thoroughly. I have this book that notes what herbs repel
the cucumber beetle and it lists catnip, marigold, nasturtium, radish and
rue. The next thing is to compare needed planting conditions. The catnip and
marigold are also good against the aphid, which I think is another common
pumpkin pest and consequently, the radish works against the squash vine
borer. I think so far I plan on placing compost ditches on all sides of my
hill, companion plants directly on the other side, and this way I will have
the conditions necessary for all the plants I hope.
This info comes from Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs. I hope this
helps,
Bridgette- newbie to competitive pumpkin growing but OH SO EXCITED!

Has anyone tried planting venus flytraps for cucumber beetle control?
With what results?
