1) It is not possible to have anything happen to your hard drive by
READING an e-mail. If there is an attachment to the e-mail, it should
be treated exactly as you would any other program of unknown origin. I.e.
save it to disk and run a virus checker on it BEFORE executing it.
2) REAL warnings about real problems are sent out by CIAC (Computer Incident
Advisory Committee) and CERT (http://www.cert.org/)
IBM does not send out virus warnings. Neither your friends nor mailing
lists reliable sources for this information.
By sending this message out, YOU are replicating this bandwidth wasting
e-mail so you are spreading this virus.
3) Before ever sending a message such as this one check for hoaxes at:
http://kumite.com/myths (where you can find info about Join The Crew)
http://www.ncsa.com
http://www.first.org
4) If you get a message which says "send this out to your friends" or
"share it with anyone that might access the Internet", think first
and DON'T DO IT.
