The forced air hot compost system has been done on a mega-scale by
Cedar Grove Composting, in Maple Valley, WA. They take in yard waste
from all over King county and compost in huge concrete pits with large
blowers beneath them and some sort of massive mixer. It seems you still
need to mix it to help break the bigger stuff into smaller stuff and
break down the woody material. They are very succesful and have a good
product. I used several yards of it on my rose beds this year and will
be using it next year for my pumpkins. They're main problem is the
neighbors raising a stink about the odor.
