The one I had was about the size of a large chicken hen, but much faster
and meaner. I think they come from Africa and some still roam free there.
They are greyish purple with little white dots all over(. They have a hard
bony top knot rather than a comb like a chicken has.
When they would first meet with my roosters the rosters wood try to
fight with them, but the Guinea would simply dodge every attack. After
awile the rooster would be quite winded and give up. The guinea would then
proudly chase off the exausted and frustrated rooster adding a few insult
pecks along the way. After awile the roosters learned not even to challenge
the guinea and run away on sight of the little terror. If some brave
rooster would dare crow in the guinea's presence he would get chased off
and if he wasn't fast enough might lose a few tail feathers. These
mini-battles had little contact and none of them ever got injured and was
really a comical sight seeing a big old rooster being chased around by a
little purple poka-dotted crazy bird. After the guinea established its
barnyard terms(which most of the roosters learned quickly) there weren't
many conflicts. They got along well with the hens and ducks though.
They make a good barnyard addition but I wouldn't have more than a few.
