Craig,
Picture your pumpkin plant as a Christmas Tree, now lay it flat on the
ground. Your main vine is the center trunk which will begin to grow first,
of this will grow secondary branches, (like tree limbs), your tertiary vines
or third vines will then grow from the secondary branches. I prune all the
tertiary vines off, some let them go!
