Re: Vine and pumpkin growth

Ok, keeping in mind that right now I am completly overcome by the flu
and it is probably just the fever talking but,.............

In order to demonstrate the way nutrients travel through the plant,
could we not on a spare plant or two(just to be safe) allow the plant to
reach sufficent size as to be growing vigourously then, after
withholding water for a couple of days, water with a solution that has a
large amount of vegetable or other non-toxic dye? With sufficent
quantities of dye in the watering solution would it not be possible to
watch the soultion migrate through the plant?

This could be done with different colours, one for watering at the main
root zone and another for foliar feeding etc. If enough of you think
this might work I wil give it a try next summer and see if I can
photograph the effects. If it shows up at all, it might be interesting
to post the results in an animated GIF or something.

I think this might work, I have seen it demonstrated on cut flowers
before, but then again I could just be delierious from the flu!
