Wayne,
We were talking last year reference this very same problem in my patch. I
was trying to pollinate the first and second week of July here in California
and temps were running 98F to 101F. Pete Glasier had suggested packing Ice
around my fruit! I built a small pup tent type shelter over my fruit using
white plastic garbage bags (sun & heat reflection) then insulated the fruit
with large white Styrofoam cups from our best Chinese food restaurant. I
then packed a 20 lb. bag of ice around each fruit to keep them cool. Several
hours later I dumped another 20 lb. bag of ice around each fruit as the
first bag placed around each fruit had melted. All fruit I pollinated using
this method took. It is a major pain in the butt, butt (pun intended) seems
to work in high heat regions!
