inbreeding ? and location ?

Dear Pumpkin Growers,
We have not yet grown one, just learned about them recently... have some
questions.
Has anyone heard of anbody growing big ones in the southwest? We are a
homeschool group in Albuquerque... and want to grow them as an
education/science/fun project for the kids. But do not want them to get their
hopes up for a real biggie and then get disappointed. As amateurs, is it
possible for some of us to get huge ones if we rad all the internet info and
get seeds from P&P or Dill's. Does one want to get one group of seeds from
P&P and one from Dill's to get a male from one plant and a female from the
other. Does inbreeding affect plants the way it affects people. Will they be
stronger if fertilized by an unrelated plant? Thanks for all the great info
on roots, soil test, and fungus! ac
