To Glenn and all the others who have sent me seeds, I thank you and wish
you the very best holiday with lots of pumpkin growing related presents.
Robert wants Santa to bring him a big ole rear tine rototiller....
Again, thanks for all the generosity and I hope next year we have a
pumpkin big enough that you all will want seeds from ours! (and you
shall have them, too!)
Jan and Robert

holy moly,Hubby's drooling over that catch. We are venison eaters in our
home,
but have had to rely on friends contributions in past years.Black powder
season
starts soon in our area. The AG's in the compost are an easy lure,we just
had to
make the pile over 500' from a dwelling(don't want to make anybody
angry)Which
part of the country did yours come from??

Well this edition is centered around construction of site number eight.
Today
I began work on what could be an impossible task. In the center of my
new
site sits the stump of a huge second growth fir tree. The stump is over
8
feet in diameter, and looks really, really heavy. I have looked into
dynamite,
but couldn't get the permits, Thought of large backhoe, but that would
destroy
the sprinkler system in site #7. Burn it out?, nope don't want all that
charcoal affecting the soil. I looked at my shovel and thought to
myself
"Self, do you really want to do this?" Then I answered "You know you
want to
plant that one last seed" and by brief psychotic self argument was over
and I
started digging.
Soil samples are to be taken within the week to conclude my study on
what
caused my pumpkins to weigh so heavy for their size. If the secret is
solved
I'll let everyone know........maybe. LOL
Take Care,
The Pumpkinguru

If you can wait a year or two, you might try ordering some mushroom plug
spawn from a place like fungi perfecti (at http://www.fungi.com/) or one
of the other mushroom companies, and innoculate your stump with it. In
a
year or two the stump will be significantly softened as the mushrooms
consume and decompose it, and should come right out. If you do this be
sure to get a type of mushroom that is happy in an aromatic softwood
like
fir.
Of course having that extra seed makes waiting a year or two
a little difficult... :-)
