survey update
Again I would like to thank those that sent in info.
Many of us have low CEC levels. Those that are 15 and below don't have
much holding power or exchange sites. So we have our work cut out for us I
believe those at this level need a regular consistant foliar feeding
program.
Those that have a high CEC( which is our goal) and are lucky their soil has
more readily available nutrients and probably wouldn't notice much
difference from foliar feeding. How do you increase CEC Humus and Humates.
Thus soils that have added OM for years should have raised there CEC. or
capcity for a rich better soil full of sites that exchange with the roots
In the survey I was looking for indicators that would point to common
occurances and success. And pumpkins that soils were relatively Balanced
in the Potasium,Mag,Ca........Was the dummy chart in front of me worth
anything.
They have found that soils that have these nutreints in balanced
proportions give optimum growth...........O.K enough mumbo jumbo
Say your soil had a cec of 13(like the 1131 =13.5) the chart reccomends the
following
potassium =267 mag=193 Ca.=1690
these are the actual 1131 soils report thanks to the Checkons
Potassium=130 mag=310 Ca.=1800
Now look at the 1191=CEC 18 recommended
potass=267 mag=230 ca.2340
1191 actual potass=240 Mag=290 Ca.=2000
The actual numbers of the 1191 and the reccomended are incredible when you
think ppm.
Now this chart is only a ball park guideline and the CEC calcium
relationships rang pretty true for the 991 and the 977.............the 977
is a tricky one as Chris' CEC was nice and High at 39..........there
recommendation was 5000+for Ca............ Chris Actual was
6700..............at first when Heard Chris' Ca. I thought thats it....add
tons of Ca..............but i think that it works better to stay somewhat
balance. Micronutrients were high in most sucess stories and iron ran in
the 60-70 range. Some one that has a scanner should shoot the chart out i
think theres something to it.
Giving it a rest ....brock
