RE: Wind breaks
I use sunflowers usually three rows of them and I try to stagger each row.
The seed is called Sunspot and it grows only 2ft. tall. It also attracts
birds into the garden that I have seen on occasion eat an insect or two.
Works pretty well for me.

Subject: Wind breaks
Chris or anone else who may use wind breaks...What is the best type of
material or established rules for "wind breaks"? Should the material be
of a solid nature to deflect the wind or should it be 50% to 80% porous
such as snow fencing which gently lays the snow (or wind) 20 feet on the
leeward side? Should it be of a black color to absorb the heat or should
it be white to reflect more sunshine on your plants? Should it be 4 feet
tall or 10 feet tall?...Does anyone have suggestions or experiences to
share about "wind Breaks"...Ken Reinsborough, Dalhousie, N.B., Canada
