Re: THANKS & seed begging
Ahh dont restrict your talks to just the over 800 crowd.... There are plenty of
knowledgable growers that havent cracked the 800pound barrier that know a ton of
helpful info. Just quickly picing out people in the sub 800 range that are some
of the biggest help you wil eveer want to know are Brett Hester (grew an 800 +
squash, but still no 800 + pumpkin), Wayne Kennedy, Mike Brock, and yours truely
in the same category with Brett Hester (800 + squash, but no 800 + pumpkin
........................yet <--key word).
then of course you have the growers who have only gone over 800 pounds with
a monster once, and have had everyother year with sub 800 pound growers. Take
the past 2 champions before Gerry Checkon. Gerrys largest before this years big
one wasnt over 800, (although Larry's was with an 815), Chris Andersen was 70
pounds before the 977 pounder, but since a move to a new patch and home, hasnt
come close (but was informed this is Chris' comeback year by SantaClaus), Gary
Burke of Ontario with the 1092, but much less other than that.
The point here is dont limit yourself by size of pumpkins, but hang out in
this list, and you will definitely learn that growing does take alot of
homework, but once you get over 800 pounds, it also takes just as much luck as
it does everything else... Heck, some would tend to think it takes even more of
the luck, than it does knowledge..
Just my humble opinion...
