Pumpkin Newbie
Hello List,
We are new at growing giant pumpkins and would like some input.
We have one ribbons for our bell peppers, pepper squash, and apples at the
local fair, and would like to try our hand at something a little bigger.
My question is, location?
The only space I have that is large enough is part of a meadow, which has
a creek running through it. I will have to fence off an area so the
cattle do not eat the pumpkin vines.
I will prepare the soil with compost, manure and peat moss, but how much
moisture do these vines like? The meadow runs from boggy wet areas, to
dry, gravely places. Since our rainfall for the past few years has been
sparse, I want to take advantage of the creek if possible. Even our large
vegetable garden has suffered due to drought. The only problem is that
the meadow is a bit of hike.
Any suggestions as to location and soil moisture?
