Pumpkin Support, Removal, and Personal Note of Thanks

Question, should I consider prepositioning a canvas beneath my best pumpkin
to facilitate moving the pumpkin from the patch this fall?  Or is it a good
idea to make a shallow depression to improve the curvature of the bottom of
the pumpkin and give the pumpkin more ground support for its increasing
mass?  I have covered a lot of literature, but have not found much on
pumpkin removal.

Hats off to everyone, who in short order, made me feel welcomed to this
list.  I have received great hospitality, free seed offers, information on
good web sites, contact by pumpkin growers associations, information on
breeding and genetic selection of pumpkins, etc.  Thanks especially to the
following folks for their back yard friendliness.
