Subject: seed naming classification system
Seed
classification naming is important.
Could someone elaborate on the
following:
Parents:
Pumpkin
plant grown from two year old 914 Checkon 98 seed (female) is pollinated from
plant grown with 891 Smith 99 seed (male).
Offspring
Example One:
Some
seeds of that fruit are passed along to Johnson who grows an offspring to 688
pounds in 2000.
Q. Would you have a 688 Johnson 00,
although Johnson merely grew and did not breed the seeds
used?
Offspring
Example Two:
Some
seeds from the original cross are kept by the originator of the cross,
Ericson, who self-pollinates his plant and grows a 1012 pound pumpkin in
2000.
Q. Would you have a 1012 Ericson 00 and
not mention either Checkon or Smith who grew the parent
plants?
Respectfully,
Matt
