RE: Moth Balls
The eggs are from which the grubs originate. And the grubs are the food
source for the moles. The past few winters here in Indiana, the winters
have been very mild and the ground has not froze much. Therefore, we have
had an explosion in the grub population because the eggs are not winter
killing at all. This has let to major problems in corn production, gardens,
yards, etc.
Merit is an insecticide made by Bayer. You can get it in a granular form
that you would apply to your lawn or garden to kill the grubs. There are a
few other insecticides that you can use, but Merit is the best for the July
application because it will kill the larve (grubs) and the eggs, which helps
to break the cycle. In april, it's best to apply the insecticide early,
because once the grubs grow so big and get fat, they are very hard to kill
with the insecticide. The july 15th application is timed for right when the
2nd generation hatches, so they are small and easy to kill.
