Re: Miracle Grow Weed Supressant

Marv,
I was experimenting last year with Preen. Its also a pre- emerg. weed controller. I don't know if its the same ingredient as Miracle grows product but I think the preen website is www.preen.com. It sound ok for pumpkins but with a catch, if you have soil with a high  organic matter content( >10%) which is possible I suppose, it can retard the growth of the plant.
Back to last year, I used it only on the patch my 788 came from. I really don't think it hurt anything but with my plant being started so late, its hard to say if it had much affect on the plant. I also don't know the organic content of my patch yet. It did a fair job on the weeds. I guess I'm going to try some straw this year as a mulch.

Subject: Miracle Grow Weed Supressant

There is a new product out this year from Miracle Grow. It reportedly keeps
weed seeds from germinating and can be used in vegetable gardens. It comes
free of or in fertilizer form. The Scotts Company lists it on the Miracle
Grow web site but they don't tell much about it. Any thoughts? I spend lots
of time pulling out weeds. I know some growers have used weed supressants in
their pumpkin patches without any significant visable effects on the plants
or pumpkins. Dual is th most commonly used that I am aware of.
