Pumpkin Seed.
Hello All,
I first signed on to this list last year, a little to late for
starting pumpkins, I signed off the list. This year I thought I would
start early and see what I can learn.
A few folks offered seed to us, but I never followed up on the
contacts. Health problems and a new baby kept us on our toes. We did
grow a few pumpkins. The biggest was about 25 lbs. No prize winner but
our son was pleased. This year we would like to try our hand at growing
something bigger than we have grown in the past. 70lbs is about the
largest. Any tips, hints, tricks or magic chants are welcomed.
We have 12 acres of land here in Pa., about 5 acres that could be
planted. I don't want 5 acres of pumpkins however. We have plenty of
water, sometimes to much, we have a variety of growing areas. Some flat,
some rolling, full sun, partial sun, shade. The soil is a bit acid, some
is high organic matter other areas are clay. The clay though heavy grows
a variety of plants very well.
If there are any seeds to be had I would be very grateful. Last
season I think I offended a few people without meaning to. They offered
seed and I asked how much they wanted. I did not know that folks gave
seed to people just starting out. So if you happen to be one of those
people, I did not mean to do the wrong thing just wasn't used to things
being given away. Sorry.
I look foreward to learning the finer points of pumpkin growing.
