RE: Pumpkin Life

I am curious...I have had un-carved jackolanterns 'melt' on my porch within
about one month. What am I doing wrong here? Obviously, once the cavity is
broken the pumpkin will rot, but what are you guys doing to keep these
pumpkins so long?

I am also curious how long a pumpkin will last once the skin has been broken
(not the cavity). I was thinking about carving my giants just on the
surface so they last a little longer than if I carved them through. How
deep can I carve it without severely limiting it's life (if at all)?

Perhaps I will have to paint a face instead!
