Yo Paul,
        I use this method every year.The bottom of the tanks are about 5ft
off the ground but it depends how deep the tank itself is. The higher the
head of water the faster the flow. I find a slower flow is best as you can
leave if on all day if needed. I use it to fertilize as well. You have to
make sure that the fertilizer wont clog the soaker hose as some fertilizers
tend to crystalize as one I tried did and it took days to clean out the
hose. I have found the ideal one and I stick to that. If you buy a
thermometer, the type you get that sticks on fish tanks, you can stick it on
the side of the tank and it will show you the temp of the water inside, just
keep the thermometer out of direct sun so you dont get a false reading.
