Re: WEEDS & GRASS
Roundup should not cause any problems and leaves no residual effect - I used
it on the plot where my 1064.5 grew the fall before - I usually double the
rec. rate if the area is really grassy. It is important to note that it only
kills what is growing though - any ungerminated seeds are not affected. It
is very effective on quackgrass and other weeds that have underground
runners as it travels through the leaves and then through the whole plant -
so if only a small portion of the weed is above ground and actively growing
the chemical will travel through the entire plant and kill it all. Another
interesting stat on tillage and summer fallowing - a pigweed can produce
300,000 seeds and those seeds can remain viable in the soil for 80 years. It
would take a long time of fallowing a plot to think that all the weed seeds
are gone.
