Re: Pumpkin Witch!?
Well, I'm back, and my health has improved tremendously. I still have the
asthma and bronchitis, but I am walking better. It's just so good to be
alive!
Half the reason I dropped out was that the list was getting too serious, and
it seemed like the fun had been lost. There were too many who just couldn't
"see the pumpkins for the vines"... or is that the other way around? I felt
I was not going to fit in anymore, if most of the humor seemed to be fading
and unwanted.
I can't afford to get too serious, and not joke and tease.
I work in a rehab facility for physically and mentally challenged
individuals. We help them overcome or work around their disability, but we
also train them for a trade or profession.
My joking and teasing helps them tremendously, with their self esteem and
determination to learn and succeed. It makes them feel far more like a
"regular guy" if they get teased and treated normally. They brag to each
other that "Terry picked on me today". They complain when I don't, and are
making very good progress with fast one liners and quips. It is imperative
that I brighten their day, each time they see me.
While this attitude really helps them, it leaves me very upbeat. I try to
teach them to enjoy the little things in life, because than you can be happy
most of the time. If you wait only for the biggies, you're going to spend a
lot of time waiting. it's a wonderful job, and I am very proud to work
there.
The wet season, in 2001 destroyed my plants, and last year, the drought took
care of that crop. I was very discouraged. The entire vegetable garden was
lost. Almost everything cracked and rotted and molded the first year, and
shriveled up the second.
I filled most of the garden with perennials, and even with the drought, they
were so heavily mulched that they bloomed and I enjoyed the garden and lost
some of the bitterness from 2 yrs of pumpkin loss.
I will probably try again this year, although I sometimes fear you will all
be a bit disappointed with me. While I like size, bright orange color and
good shape are also tantamount. I have even started collecting
pumpkin-related figurines, etc.
It looks like there is still humor here, so I'll hang in here.If I get to
"sunny", just let me know.
